September 2014: within the “8th ECNP International Conference on Nanostructured Polymers and Nanocomposites” – Dresden, Germany, 16-19 September 2014, the poster entitled “Polysaccharides-assisted direct exfoliation of graphite into defect-free graphene sheets and fabrication of nanocomposite films thereof” (authors: Uysal Unalan I., Wan C., Piergiovanni L., Farris S.) received the first prize (€ 150,00) within the ‘Polymer Materials from Renewable Sources and Functional Nanocomposites and Coatings” category.
June 2014: within the “6th Shelf Life International Meeting” (SLIM) – New Brunswick, USA, 11-13 June 2014, the poster entitled “Properties of green bionanocomposite films prepared from microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) and pullulan” (authors: Cozzolino C., Cerri G., Brundu A., Farris S.) received the Elsevier first prize ($ 1000,00).
April 2012: within the “2nd International Meeting on Material/Bioproduct interactions” (MATBIM) – Dijon, France, 22-25 April 2012, the poster entitled “Investigation of the wetting phenomena involved at the water/biopolymer coatings interface” (authors: Introzzi L., Biagioni P., Holz T., Piergiovanni L., Schiraldi A., Farris S.) was awarded as the best in the “Analyticals for measuring transfers/interactions and their predictions” session.
April 2012: within the “2nd International Meeting on Material/Bioproduct interactions” (MATBIM) – Dijon, France, 22-25 April 2012, the poster entitled “Dye release behavior from polyvinyl alcohol films in a hydro-alcoholic medium: influence of physicochemical heterogeneity” (authors: Cozzolino C.A., Blomfeldt T.O.J., Nilsson F., Piga A., Piergiovanni L., Farris S.) was awarded as the best in the “Transfers” session.
June 2010: within the “4th Shelf Life International Meeting” (SLIM) – Zaragoza, Spain 22-25 June 2010, the poster entitled “Effect of different sealing conditions on the seal strength of polypropylene films coated with a bio-based thin layer” (authors: Farris S., Cozzolino C.A., Introzzi L., Piergiovanni L.) was awarded as one of the best three posters in the ‘New Technologies for Shelf-life extension’ area.
December 2008: within the competition “Ricerca.tissimi: Premio Ricerca & Internazionalizzazione”, as P.I. of the project called ‘BIO-SEAL’, I was awarded by one of the 20 prizes of 15.000,00 € granted by the Lombardy Region to the best researcher/research team for excellence in scientific research in the Life Science, with particular attention to the health-care, agro-food, environmental and industrial applications sectors.
June 2008: within the “3rd Shelf Life International Meeting” (SLIM) – Ischia, (NA), 25-27 June 2008, I was awarded by the Scientific Italian Group of Food Packaging (GSICA) by the scientific productivity prize of 1.500,00 € – “Food Packaging Research – GSICA award”.
September 2006: selected to deliver a presentation at the 1st Workshop on Food Engineering and Technology of the Section on Food of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE), organised in cooperation with EFFoST, the European Federation of Food Science and Technology, in Berlin – May 21-22, 2007, where the best 15 Ph.D. European students presented the major achievements of their Ph.D. research activity.
