‘Release’ coatings

Release coatings fall under the so-called ‘active’ materials, namely materials able to interact with the surrounding environment instead of playing a passive role.

While there exist a number of active functions, my research is primarily aimed to the development of antimicrobial release systems. More specifically, the goal is to obtain coatings that can release antimicrobial molecules into the outer environment in a controlled manner. This means that the delivery of the active molecule should take place according with specific release patterns that have to be tailored depending on the specific application (e.g. food, biomedical).
